This morning, to celebrate the upcoming start of the college football season, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum unveiled an officially licensed Wisconsin Badgers Bucky Badger Push-Up Counter Bobblehead. The unique bobblehead lets Wisconsin fans count along with the number of push-ups Bucky does each game and is part of a series featuring over a dozen college mascots that do push-ups when their team scores. The officially licensed bobbleheads are being produced by the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, an official licensee of the University of Wisconsin.

  • Released in conjunction with the start of the 2024 college football season, the bobbleheads are now available in the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum’s Online Store at this link.
  • The bobbleheads, which are expected to ship in September, are $40 each plus a flat-rate shipping charge of $8 per order.
  • Each bobblehead is individually numbered to 2,024.
  • Buckingham Ulysses Badger, better known as “Bucky,” was first drawn by California-based commercial artist Art Evans in 1940. The original costumed Bucky was introduced at a pep rally on Friday, November 11th, 1949, before the next day’s Homecoming football game against Iowa. Seven students usually portray Bucky. Tryouts include tests of dancing skills, expressiveness in the suit, ability to work with props, and the number of push-ups a candidate can do. Bucky’s push-ups are one of UW’s great Game Day traditions, although the ritual had an unassuming start. On the heels of a 1-10 season, three former Bucky mascots started doing push-ups during the 1991 season to energize a lackluster crowd. The mascots created a board on which Bucky could do push-ups for all game attendees to see, and, by teaming up with the cheerleaders, it was introduced during a 21-6 victory over Eastern Michigan on September 21st, 1991, at Camp Randall Stadium. On November 13th, 2010, the Wisconsin offense exploded for 83 points in an 83-20 victory over the Indiana Hoosiers. Bucky ended up doing 573 push-ups in the rout. “I couldn’t feel my arms,” the Bucky mascot said afterward. “It was pure Jell-O.”
  • The Badgers kick off the 2024 football season on Friday night when they host the Western Michigan Broncos at 8pm at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison.
  • “We’re excited to unveil this unique Bucky Badger Push-Up Counter Bobblehead in conjunction with the start of the 2024 college football season,” National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum co-founder and CEO Phil Sklar said. “This bobblehead will be the perfect way for Wisconsin fans to follow along as the Badgers put points on the scoreboard each week for many seasons to come and a great way for fans, alumni, students, faculty, and staff to show off their school pride all year long!”
  • The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, which is located at 170 S. 1st. St. in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, opened to the public on February 1st, 2019. The HOF and Museum also produces high quality, customized bobbleheads for retail sale as well as organizations, individuals, and teams across the country.
