This morning, to celebrate the start of the 2024-25 school year, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum unveiled the first Washburn University Bobblehead featuring Washburnโs mascot Mr. Ichabod, who is one of the most unique college mascots. Washburn University and its Ichabods are both named for Ichabod Washburn, who was an early benefactor of the school. Washburn students began referring to themselves as Ichabods in the late 1800s and a mascot image was created in 1938.
Over the next two weeks, we are unveiling our back-to-school bobblehead collection, and weโre excited to have Washburn included. The officially licensed bobbleheads are being produced by the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, an official licensee of Washburn University.
- The bobbleheads, which are the first to feature Mr. Ichabod, are now available in the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museumโs Online Store at this link.
- The bobbleheads, which are expected to ship in December, are $35 each plus a flat-rate shipping charge of $8 per order.
- Each bobblehead is individually numbered to 2,024.
- Standing on a base that reads โIchabodsโ across the front with a backing featuring Washburnโs logo, the Mr. Ichabod bobblehead is giving the #1 sign with his right hand while wearing a Washburn University t-shirt and navy bowtie.
- An NCAA Division II program located in Topeka, Kansas, Washburn has been a member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association since the 1989-90 academic year. The Ichabods nickname is named after Ichabod Washburn, an early benefactor of the school who was also the founder of Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Washburn students began referring to themselves as Ichabods in the late-1800s and a mascot was given an image in 1938. The womenโs athletic teams were previously known as the Lady Blues. On May 24th, 2013, the school announced that all athletic teams would be known as the Ichabods for the first time in history. The Ichabod is a symbol intended to represent courage, character, kindness, and scholarship.
- Classes began for the 2024 fall semester at Washburn University on Monday, August 19th.
- “Weโre excited to unveil the first Washburn Ichabods Bobblehead in conjunction with the start of the new school year,โ National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum co-founder and CEO Phil Sklar said. โThis bobblehead will be the perfect way for Washburn fans, alumni, students, faculty, and staff to show off their school pride!โ
