This morning, to celebrate the start of the 2024-25 school year, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum unveiled the first Tulane University Bobblehead featuring Tulane’s mascot Riptide the Pelican. Over the next two weeks, we are unveiling our back-to-school bobblehead collection, and we’re excited to have Tulane included. The officially licensed bobbleheads are being produced by the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, an official licensee of Tulane University.

  • The bobbleheads, which is the first to feature Riptide the Pelican, are now available in the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum’s Online Store at this link.
  • The bobbleheads, which are expected to ship in December, are $35 each plus a flat-rate shipping charge of $8 per order.
  • Each bobblehead is individually numbered to 2,024.
  • Standing on a base that reads “Green Wave” across the front with a backing featuring Tulane’s logo, the Riptide the Pelican bobblehead is waving and wearing a No. 00 Tulane football jersey.
  • Tulane’s nickname was adopted after a song titled “The Rolling Green Wave” was published in the Tulane Hullabaloo in 1920. From 1893 to 1919, the athletic teams of Tulane were officially known as “The Olive and Blue” for the school colors. A full redesign of all athletics logos and marks was commissioned in 1998, resulting in a new pelican mascot. The pelican, used in the first half of the century as the emblem of Tulane’s athletics teams, is also the Louisiana state bird and is found on the state flag and state seal. The name Riptide was selected as the mascot’s name by Tulane administration after a vote of the student body. Riptide replaced the Angry Wave mascot, who was also known as Gumby.
  • “We’re excited to unveil the first bobblehead featuring Tulane’s Riptide the Pelican in conjunction with the start of the new school year,” National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum co-founder and CEO Phil Sklar said. “This bobblehead will be the perfect way for Tulane fans, alumni, students, faculty, and staff to show off their school pride!”
  • The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, which is located at 170 S. 1st. St. in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, opened to the public on February 1st, 2019. The HOF and Museum also produces high quality, customized bobbleheads for retail sale as well as organizations, individuals, and teams across the country.
