First Brat Days Bratmeister Bobblehead Unveiled

MILWAUKEE – This morning, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum and Sheboygan Jaycees unveiled a limited-edition bobblehead of Bratmeister, the 9-foot inflatable Brat Days mascot. The bobblehead is being released in conjunction with the return of Brat Days, which is taking place Friday and Saturday, August 2-3 at Kiwanis Park in Sheboygan. The special edition bobblehead is being produced exclusively for the Sheboygan Jaycees by the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum.

Standing on a red circular base bearing his name and the Brat Days logo, the Bratmeister bobblehead is holding a double bratwurst sandwich, undoubtedly made with brats from Johnsonville, the event’s title sponsor. Each bobblehead is individually numbered to only 100 and they are only available through the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum’s Online Store. The bobbleheads, which are expected to ship in October, are $40 each plus a flat-rate shipping charge of $8 per order.

To celebrate the City of Sheboygan’s 100th anniversary, Bratwurst Day debuted on August 13th, 1953. The idea, conceived by A. Matt Werner, editor of The Sheboygan Press, was a means of publicizing Sheboygan’s claim to fame: the bratwurst. The event was sponsored by the Sheboygan Jaycees with the support of then Mayor Edward C. Schmidt and Governor Walter Kohler. The event has gone through several iterations over the years and is currently known as The Sheboygan Jaycees present Johnsonville Brat Days, or just Brat Days for short.

The Bratmeister, a 9-foot balloon man resembling a Bavarian character, made his debut in 1980 as the mascot of the Sheboygan Jaycees. Over the years, his dance moves have been envied by all. Along with bobbleheads of Bratmeister being available for sale, a Bratmeister bobblehead with No. 1 on it will be on display both days and auctioned off to the public right after the Brat Eating Contest which is at 1:00pm on Saturday, August 3rd at the Johnsonville Main Stage.

Canceled last year while the Sheboygan Jaycees revamped the event, Brat Days, which is the organization’s biggest fundraiser, is making its triumphant return in 2024. Brat Days features live music, brat-eating, karaoke, and cornhole contests, the Charity Challenge, and a parade on Saturday, August 3rd. Sheboygan Mayor Ryan Sorenson will give a proclamation for the Sheboygan Jaycees’ centennial anniversary.
