This morning, to celebrate March Madness and the start of the 2025 NCAA Tournament, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum unveiled a pair of officially licensed BYU Cougars Basketball Bobbleheads. This afternoon, the BYU Cougars will take on the VCU Rams in the 2025 Men’s Basketball NCAA Tournament. The limited edition bobbleheads were produced by the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, an official licensee of Brigham Young University.
- The bobbleheads are now available in the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museumโs Online Store at this link.
- The bobbleheads, which are expected to ship in September, are $35 each plus a flat-rate shipping charge of $8 per order.
- Each bobblehead is individually numbered to 2,025.
- Standing on a base with โCougarsโ on the front and a backing featuring the BYU logo, the Cosmo bobbleheads are available in both white and blue BYU jerseys.
- The 6th seeded BYU Cougars will take on the 11th seeded VCU Rams at 2:05pm Mountain Time today in Denver, Colorado, with the winner going on to face either Wisconsin or Montana on Saturday.
- In 1923, Brigham Young University selected the cougar as its mascot. Eugene L. Roberts, a coach and faculty member, suggested the cougar because it is native to Utah, and it exemplified the traits that he hoped athletes competing for BYU would have. These traits included strength, agility, grace, quickness, and beauty. On October 15th, 1953, Cosmo the Cougar made his first appearance in front of BYU fans, flying into LaVell Edwards Stadium on a parachute. Dwayne Stevenson, the BYU pep chairman, bought the costume for $73 and persuaded his roommate, Daniel Gallego to wear it and become the first Cosmo. The name Cosmo derives from the word cosmopolitan and was chosen because BYU had recently been selected as a Cosmopolitan school.
- “Weโre excited to unveil these BYU Cougars bobbleheads in conjunction with March Madness and the start of the 2025 NCAA Tournament,โ National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum co-founder and CEO Phil Sklar said. โThese bobbleheads are the perfect way for BYU fans, alumni, students, faculty, and staff to show off their school pride!โ
