This morning, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum unveiled the first bobblehead of Ohio State Buckeyes senior defensive end and Columbus native, Jack Sawyer. The hometown hero who grew up as a die-hard Ohio State fan in the Columbus area helped the Buckeyes capture the 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship and cemented his legacy as one of the best to ever play for the Buckeyes. His legendary 83-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the Cotton Bowl victory over Texas propelled the Buckeyes into the title game.
The officially licensed, limited-edition bobblehead is the latest to commemorate the Buckeyes’ 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship. The special edition bobblehead is being produced by the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, an official licensee of The Ohio State University.

- Standing on a circular field-like base bearing his name, the Jack Sawyer bobblehead is in the same celebratory pose he made after scoring on a pivotal 83-yard fumble return in the fourth quarter against Texas in the 2025 Cotton Bowl.
- Jack Sawyer was born on May 6, 2002, in Columbus, Ohio, and grew up in Pickerington where he played basketball and football for Pickerington High School North. He grew up as a fan of the Buckeyes and committed to Ohio State as a sophomore in high school as the first recruit for Coach Ryan Day. He is now considered one of the greatest Buckeyes of all time.
- On Friday, January 10th, Ohio State defeated Texas, 28-14, in the 2025 Cotton Bowl Classic at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Driving for the tying touchdown late in the fourth quarter, Texas faced a fourth-and-goal from the Ohio State 8-yard line. On the game-sealing play, Sawyer stripped the ball from Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers – his former roommate – and the senior defensive end returned the fumble 83 yards for the clinching touchdown with 2 minutes, 13 seconds remaining. It was the longest fumble return in CFP history. The play, which earned Sawyer the game’s Defensive MVP award, was nicknamed “83 Yards Through the Heart of Texas.” With the victory, the Buckeyes advanced to the national championship game.
- On Monday, January 20th, No. 8 Ohio State captured the program’s ninth national title with a 34-23 victory over No. 7 Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff National Championship before a crowd of 77,660 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. It was the second-largest crowd in CFP championship game history. Sawyer, a Columbus native, capped his collegiate career with three tackles in the championship game. Sawyer finished his senior with 59 tackles and nine sacks. In 54 games, he had 144 tackles and 23 sacks in his career.
- The title marked the ninth national championship in program history and the first since 2014 for the Buckeyes, who made their sixth CFP appearance this season. In the first expanded 12-team College Football Playoff, the Buckeyes outscored their four postseason opponents by a combined score of 145-75.
- Featuring mascot Brutus Buckeye, previous Ohio State bobbleheads released to commemorate the Buckeyes’ 2024 National Championship include the 2024 CFP National Champions Brutus Buckeye Bobblehead and the Bobble Logo, an interactive Championship Counter Bobblehead, a 9-Time National Champions Scoreboard Bobblehead, a National Champions Bobblehead Ornament, a National Champions Mini Bobblehead, a Heading to Atlanta Bobblehead, and a Brutus Buckeye Flag Bobblehead.
- “The Ohio State football team had countless standout plays en route to winning their ninth national championship, but none were more memorable than Jack Sawyer’s 83-yard fumble return touchdown against Texas in the Cotton Bowl,” National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum co-founder and CEO Phil Sklar said. “This bobblehead will be a must-have for fans of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the hometown hero who made Buckeyes fans across the state and world so proud!”
