Virginia vs. Virginia Tech Rivalry Bobblehead Unveiled to Celebrate Saturday’s Game

Today, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum unveiled a limited-edition, officially licensed Virginia Cavaliers vs. Virginia Tech Hokies Rivalry Bobblehead ahead of Saturday’s game between the two rivals at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Virginia. The bobblehead features Virginia’s mascot Cavman and Virginia Tech’s mascot HokieBird with a replica of the Commonwealth Cup. The bobblehead commemorates the rivalry, which was first played in 1895.

The special edition bobblehead, which is being released in conjunction with the 105th meeting between the Cavaliers and Hokies on Saturday, November 30th at Lane Stadium, is available exclusively from the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, an official licensee of the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech.

• The bobbleheads, which are expected to ship in May, are $50 each plus a flat-rate shipping charge of $8 per order.
• Each bobblehead will be individually numbered to 2,024.
• The bobblehead is being released in conjunction with the 105th meeting between the teams on Saturday, November 30th at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Virginia.
• Standing side-by-side on a football field base that reads “CAVALIERS” in one end zone and “HOKIES” in the other end zone, Virginia mascot Cavman and Virginia Tech mascot HokieBird are wearing their respective uniforms while giving the No. 1 signal and holding a football adorned with their school logo. Positioned in between Cavman and HokieBird is a replica of the Commonwealth Cup. The front of the base features the logos for each team.
• VA and VT first met on the football field in 1895 and have played annually since 1970. The game counts for one point in the Commonwealth Clash each year and is part of the greater Virginia-Virginia Tech rivalry. Since 1990, the game has nearly always been held in late November, often on Thanksgiving weekend. Virginia Tech leads the all-time series 61-38-5. The Hokies have won the last three meetings (and 18 of the last 19), including a convincing 55-17 victory last year in Charlottesville.
• In 1996, a trophy was created for the rivalry, known as the Commonwealth Cup. The trophy is constructed of marble and cherry wood and is four feet high. It also contains the scores of all the games in the series. The cup is engraved with the names of the two schools and is mounted atop a trapezoidal base that makes up most of the trophy’s length. The front of the base features a stylized map of Virginia with Blacksburg and Charlottesville represented by stars on the map.
