This morning, in conjunction with the 2024-25 college basketball season, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum unveiled a first-of-its-kind North Carolina Tar Heels Top 25 Ranking Tracker Bobblehead. The unique bobblehead will let fans change the teamโs ranking each week for many years to come. The officially licensed bobbleheads are being produced by the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, an official licensee of the University of North Carolina.
North Carolinaโs menโs team is currently ranked #10 in the AP Top 25 and #12 in the Coaches Poll while the womenโs team is currently ranked #16 in the AP Top 25 and #15 in the Coaches Poll. North Carolinaโs menโs team has gotten off to a 2-1 start and will take on Hawaii on Saturday before tipping off in the Maui Invitational on Monday. The womenโs team has a 3-1 record and will take on Ball State in the Battle 4 Atlantis on Saturday in the Bahamas.
- Released in conjunction with the 2024-25 college basketball season, the bobbleheads are now available in the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museumโs Online Store at this link.
- The bobbleheads, which are expected to ship in April, are $40 each plus a flat-rate shipping charge of $8 per order.
- Each will be individually numbered to 2,024.
- Standing on a basketball court base, the Rameses bobblehead is positioned on a numbered block that can be adjusted when North Carolinaโs ranking changes. Rameses is also holding a basketball with the UNC logo.
- Two versions of Rameses appear at UNC sporting events. One is a member of the UNC cheerleading team in a ram costume; the other is a live Dorset Horn sheep who attends UNC football games with his horns painted Carolina blue. The origin of a ram as the UNC mascot dates to the early-1920s. In 1922, UNC star fullback Jack Merritt was given the nickname โThe Battering Ramโ for his performance on the field. In 1924, a live ram made its first appearance at a pep rally. The first costumed Rameses appeared during the 1987-88 school year. On October 26th, 2015, Rameses Jr., or RJ for short, made his debut during Late Night with Roy, the UNC menโs basketball teamโs annual Midnight Madness event.
