Two of Maryland’s top mascots are bouncing their way to fame.
The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum this week unveiled two bobbleheads commemorating collegiate sports champions in Maryland — the Terps’ men’s basketball team and Johns Hopkins’ men’s lacrosse.
The bobblehead featuring Testudo — the Maryland mascot — recognizes the school’s 2002 NCAA men’s basketball championship. The Terps mascot stands with arms in the air and the trophy at its feet, with the school logo as a backdrop.
The bobblehead featuring Jay — the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays bird — includes a lacrosse-stick-wielding mascot surrounded by nine NCAA championship trophies. The Blue Jays most recently won in 2007 and trail only Syracuse’s 10 NCAA Division I championships in the sport. But Hopkins has won a total of 44 national championships in the sport, dating to 1891, making the Baltimore school the most storied program in the sport.
